– CCC won T10 title
Kaieteur News – Invaders Masters produced an excellent all-round performance to capture the inaugural Essequibo Softball Cricket League (ESCL) over-40, T20 title following a 10-wicket victory over Caribbean Cricket Club (CCC) recently at Reliance on the Essequibo Coast.
CCC opted to bat and managed 165-9. Eshwar Singh led the way with a fine 56 as veteran player Ramesh Narine grabbed three for 21 from his maximum four overs, while Patrick Rooplall also proved his all-round capability by snaring two for 28 off his four overs.
Invaders Masters responded in emphatic style reaching the target in the 18th over without losing a wicket.
Fazeer Khan struck an aggressive 80 while the experienced Patrick Rooplall hit an entertaining 61.
In a specially arranged four-team ten-over competition before the championship game, CCC got the better of Reliance Hustlers by seven wickets.
Reliance Hustlers mustered an insufficient 95-3 with Shivsankar Bissoon scoring 58. CCC replied with 97-3 in the penultimate over. Gary Ragnauth made 28.
For the 20-overs game, the winning team received $60, 000 and a trophy while the runners-up collected $30,000 and a trophy.
In the 10-over contest, both teams received trophies. At the post-match presentation, President of the ESCL Tom Bacchus expressed gratitude to teams for their participation. He reserved special mention for the sponsors for their generous support. Bacchus was also satisfied with the well-run competition and promised to make this an annual event. Chairman of the competition Wakeel Layne was also praised for his organisation. Layne expressed gratitude to the sponsors, the six teams that participated and the supporters.
