Kaieteur News – The Georgetown Mayor and City Council (M&CC) will spend some $8.480 million to clean up the Capital City for the holiday season.
The collection of garbage around Georgetown commenced earlier last week, across several wards in the city and will continue for 12-weeks.
City Mayor, Ubraj Narine, during an interview with Kaieteur News, has disclosed that $5 million will be poured directly into city cleanup for the picking up of parapet waste in main areas in the city, and $3.840 million for the double pickup of commercial waste.
This is in addition to the monthly $12 million contract that was awarded among three companies, Cevon’s Waste Management, Sandip Waste Management Solutions and Guyana Waste Solutions, to pick up garbage around Georgetown.
During a tour around the city, it was observed that there are piles of garbage strewn across several areas including the Camp Street locale, where persons traverse daily to and from work.
Additionally, drains could be seen overflowing onto the walkways across other sections of the city.
