Dear Editor,
Kaieteur News – The Opposition MP who has a problem with male handing menstrual packages to female students (INews Nov. 16) has a misplaced view in this 21st century. So, should the male cashier at the supermarket checkout not cash/handle the packet of sanitary napkins but call for a female to so do? Or the male should not go to the pharmacy to get some pain relievers for his wife, mother, girlfriend, sister when in this condition?
Perhaps the MP has lived a sheltered life where if a male were to get involved in a woman’s domain it would be seen as unmanly and might be a cultural and religious convention, where lines are not crossed. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a male handing out, purchasing or assisting in this regard. It is called understanding and appreciating the complexities of womanhood. This episode tells how much work is yet to be done to rid our people of false notions, fallacies and beliefs. It is noted that the Opposition has not responded nor has any other female groups besides the Women and Gender Equality Commission.
