Dear Editor,
Kaieteur News – The recent call for commuters and by extension members of the public to record and forward to the police those who breach the law on loud music in public transport does not seem a lucid one, (GT Nov 15).
Of course mini-bus operators are not the only ones guilty of this malpractice. Private motor cars can be heard traversing city streets and elsewhere in full breach of the noise nuisance law. But, that aside, this call is an open call for law abiding citizens to be assaulted and injured, even killed, not to mention there expensive phones and other equipment to be damaged and stolen. In the process persons can be marked and targeted.
Who will want to open themselves to such consequences when a large number of minibuses are owned by the police who have to police the system? Talk about cat watching milk. No, it is not an all-consuming practical call. The police have to be more vigilant, even calling out those buses which might be owned by their superiors.
Is there a noise level gun like there is for speed?
Regards
Shamshun Mohamed
