Kaieteur News – Action for the Guyanese swimmers kicked off yesterday at the South American Jr. Championships in Peru which is scheduled to run from November 8-14.
Amber DeGoeas and Elliot Gonzalves were the first two Guyanese to enter to pool yesterday; with DeGoeas participating in the Prelims of the 200m Freestyle 16-18 Girls while Gonzalves swam in the Male 200m IM and the 100M Breaststroke.Gonzalves finished the 200m IM in a time of 2:23.54 to end 10th after starting the event with an entry time 2:23.62. In the Men’s 100m Breaststroke, he swam a time of 1:17.70 to finish 13th after starting with an entry time of 1:15.38.
DeGoeas swam the Girls 200m Freestyle in a time of 2:36.65 after starting with an entry time 2:30.32. This morning, Olympian 15-year-old Aleka Persaud, DanielClaxton, Ariel Rodrigues and Shareffah Lewis will go into action for the first time in Peru.Giving his thoughts on yesterday’s performance Coach Sean Baksh said the results are not bad.
“But they both felt the effects of the altitude, so we are addressing that with the other swimmers ahead of tomorrow’s (today’s) events,” explained Baksh.
On Monday, the Championships began with the opening Ceremony and the March Pass.
