Dear Editor,
Kaieteur News – Every time I go abroad and return to Guyana, it never ceases to depress me how truly backward Guyana is. It starts at the very beginning of my disembarkation at the Timehri airport. The relevant documents for entry into Guyana along with my passport are handed to a clerk for inspection, then it is taken to someone else for further inspection, eventually it is given to one of the immigration officers on duty who inspects it. One would think that is the end of it and everything is fine, only to discover days later upon going to the bank, which now requests to see your COVID-19 vaccination card that my card was not handed back to me, although the vaccines were administered right here in Guyana by our Ministry of Health. I, then, had to go back to the source to get a new card. When will Guyana keep up with the rest of the world.
Then, there is the case of the East Bank Road to and from Timehri. It is a total disgrace and an eyesore, not to mention the stench one must endure on the way. Is it any wonder foreigners treat us less than third class citizens when the very first thing they see travelling the East Bank Road from the airport is just a lot of broken-down shacks and a few houses badly in need of a coat of paint or even a coat of white wash which will make them look better? Don’t Guyanese have any pride in their country? Surely the Government can do something to spruce up the very entry way into Guyana!!!!!!
Sincerely,
A concerned and very disappointed citizen
