Dear Editor,
Shamshun Mohameds letter of Oct. 30 raises two issues: one is on target; the other is off. He generally writes succinctly and well.
Indians are not averse to Muslim cricketers saying namaz on field and are not asking them to apologise for this. It was Harsha Bogle who asked Waqar Younis, a former Pakistani legend to apologise for his insensitive comments, and he did soon after.
Not only Kashmiris, but other Indians, have been charged for expressing support for the Pakistani win. Such laws seem archaic and not conducive to national healing.
But Imran Khan seeing cricket against India as jihad and Shahid Afridi breaking the tv on which his daughter just witnessed a Hindu ritual are in a different league.
I hope West Indians are not celled for cheering for other teams. But we know that can never happen in the Caribbean.
Give thanks.
P. Lall
