In an October 23 KN feature article on the above referenced subject, Columnist Freddie Kissoon in his usual egoistic style, prided himself by reminding his readers that he knows what he writes about because he was trained to research the material having attended two Canadian and one Guyanese universities right up to the doctoral programme. But for reason unknown, fell short of receiving the doctorate degree.
He is of the opinion that the PPP Party is a predominantly Indian Party which gave its African members real political power to make critical decisions on national objectives, vis-a’-vis the PNC. An African dominated party, which had powerful Indian bigwigs within its inner circle merely as “window dressing”, rather than given real and formidable influential political power to initiate policies for national changes, as the PPP Party did for its African members.
Evidence showed that some of the so called ‘Indian bigwigs’ of the 28 who are listed in the Article, as the PNC inner circle party members, took the opportunities and used the positions afforded them to enhance their personalities and expand their networks for lucrative jobs abroad as well as to engage in carefully crafted corrupt schemes to enrich themselves instead, as some of the others did while in office, of using their limited political power to formulate and implement policies to improve the lives of all Guyanese.
With respect to Kissoon’s statement that Winston Murray was an Indian who had challenged Robert Corbin for leadership of the PNC Party, it should be noted that Winston grew up at Maryville, Leguan an Indian community with his Mother an Indian but his Father Tucker, was of mixed race. His Wife is Afro-Guyanese and before his death he lived at Jasmat Bina Terrace, Prashad Nagar. Therefore, considerations for leadership of the PNC Party by its members appeared to have been complex, socio- economic political issues rather than serious racist curiosities as Freddie Kissoon would want us believe influenced the selection of Robert Corbin as leader for the PNC Party.
