Team makes donations to Catholic youths
The fruitful relationship between Guyana leading youth and sports club and Berbice’ leading Pharmacy was renewed on Thursday. The popular business entity handed over a cheque for $200,000, its commitment for the next year towards the Rose Hall Town Poonai Pharmacy Under-13 cricket team.
Bhigroog hands over sponsorship to the Club’s Organising Secretary Ravindranauth Kissonlall in the presence of Tameshwar Deoanand and Tyrone Pottaya.
The presentation was done by Managing Director Poonai Bhigroog to RHTY&SC MS Organising Secretary, Ravindranauth Kissonlall in presence of Executive Member Tyrone Pottaya and Team vice captain, Tameshwar Deonandan.
Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster expressed gratitude to Bhigroog for his continued support of the club and stated that the U13 team is one of eleven (11) teams of the club. It serves as the nursery to the Farfan and Mendes U15s and currently has about 30 members under the leadership of Captain, Sohail Mohammed and his deputy, Deonandan. Kissoonlall and Pottaya are the cricket Managers.
National junior player Jonathan Rampersaud serves as the team mentor along with Assistant Secretary/CEO Simon Naidu. The team was formed in 2017 with sponsorship from the company and emerged as runner-up in the BCB championship in 2018.
In December, 2019 the Rose Hall Town Poonai Pharmacy Under-13 team defeated Albion in the Trophy Stall tournament to emerge as winners in an exciting final at the Hampshire Ground. The team has re-commenced preparations for the restart of the BCB 2021 season and is confident of defending their title when play bowls off in the BCB/Romario Shepherd Under-13 tournament. The team and management would be involved in a minimum of 20 social development programmes with the objective of making a positive difference in the lives of others.

These would include distribution of cycles, school bags and food hampers to youths and less fortunate people. Bjigroog, in remarks noted that he was delighted to renew his sponsorship as he was very impressed with the work of the club and he’s well aware of the positive difference that the club was making in the lives of others.
The Club and team, Bhigroog noted has been outstanding flag bearers of his company’s brand and committed to long term relationship. Meanwhile, the Poonai Pharmacy U13 side has already started to fulfill their commitment to their sponsor by handing over five bicycles to youths attending the St Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church in Port Mourant.
The cycles were handed over to the youths under the RHTY&SC/Basil Butcher Memorial Trust Fund. Foster, who handed over the cycles to the youths along with Parish Priest Ramesh Vanan stated that the church had played a major role in the formation of the club and as such the RTHY&SC was totally committed to assisting as much as possible.
