“I think people should recognise that the same stuff they order or purchase from other territories are right in their own country and by supporting your own you’re supporting yourself which equals a better economy.”

Kaieteur News – Suffering from a skin condition, regardless of the type, is not the easiest experience to endure. Many young persons, during their adolescent years, fall victim to skin conditions such as acne. Though this condition is deemed a normal part of their development, the condition sometimes takes a toll on them even resulting in them losing confidence since they become “uncomfortable in their own skin,” no pun intended. Seventeen-year-old Naheeryah Newland’s mission to create her very own natural skincare business was ignited when she too lost that confidence in herself. The young pioneer behind the skincare brand ‘Nereskin’ told Kaieteur News that after losing confidence because of acne, she decided that enough was enough.
“I started doing various research to find effective natural ingredients to help me; after I started using them, I received numerous comments on how my skin has improved immensely,” she shared. It was while thinking about others who are suffering with the same problem, that she got the idea to turn her invention into a business. Nereskin which was launched in March of this year, is a natural skincare brand that caters for individuals with various skin conditions such as acne, hyper pigmentation, among others. Even if you are not affected with these conditions and are looking for that natural skincare product to add to your routine, this brand also caters to you, she explained recently. Although it was only recently launched, Newland’s business has already become the talk of the town. The root of it all, she said, is the overwhelming support she has been receiving from family, friends and members of her community of Den Amstel located on the West Coast of Demerara in Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara). Though commenting on how great the support has been thus far, the young woman did not fail to highlight that faith is what has gotten her where she is now. “Starting a business is not easy, there are some days where you feel like giving up,” she added. But going the extra mile to make her legitimate business idea a reality, has brought with it a type of satisfaction that keeps her motivated. What makes this brand stands out from others, is the unique passion, creativeness and hard work, Newland said she puts into all the products she offers. This brand was not only founded to bring about an income but also, as the young woman shared, it is to make her customers feel valued, beautiful and to help improve their skins.
When asked what are the future plans for her brand, the University of Guyana student explained that she wants to expand and explore in more areas. Our featured entrepreneur is of the opinion that young men and women in business are becoming more independent and that they are going against the odds which is a great initiative in itself. She is convinced too that more can be done locally to help boost small businesses. “I think people should recognise that the same stuff they order or purchase from other territories are right in their own country and by supporting your own, you’re supporting yourself which equals a better economy,” she added.
