Kaieteur News – The Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) came alive Friday night as the Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF) concluded its second leg of the best of five exhibition games between the Senior National team and the National U23 team.
Once again the National Senior team was annihilated by the National U23 squad by three sets to one. The first set of the game was a thrilling one which saw the national U23 team defeating the Seniors 25-20. The seniors exhibited dominance to defeat the U23 team in the second set 25-16. The U23 then claimed the third set 25-22. The fourth and final set of the game was the most thrilling one, in this set the Senior team blew a 8 point lead they had over the U23 team.
With clutch plays and brilliant coaching the U23 team fought hard to come back and win the set and the game. The top scorers of the game for the National U23 team were Tyrone Farley with 12 points, Kristoff Shepperd with 10 points and Ronaldo Bobb with 8 points. Meanwhile, the top scorers on the Senior National team were Quacy Matheson with 20 points, Trevon McRae with 16 points and Juan Valasques with 14 points.
Meanwhile, the female exhibition game comprised of a mixture of females from different clubs and affiliations placed into Team black (uniform colors) and Team white. Team Black came out victorious defeating their counterparts 2-0. This was the first official indoor volleyball game held for females since the pandemic began. The top scorers for team Black were Kim Bagot-Chan with 10 points, Cassie Junor with 7 points and Alianna Charles with 6 points.
On the other side the top scorers for team white were Leanna Davis with 11 points, Mercedes Matheson with 5 points and Thea Myers with 4 points.
The third leg of the best in five exhibition games will be played on the 20th of August 2021 as the National U23 team tries to close out the series and as the National Senior Team tries to keep their hopes of claiming the series alive.
The GVF thanked the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport and the National Sports Commission for their continued support as they look forward to fostering relations for Volleyball development in all parts of Guyana.
