– Steal car, jewellery and cash
Kaieteur News – Armed gunmen on Friday pounced on New Amsterdam businessman, Danny Sankar, of Lot 588 Fort Ordinance Housing Scheme, East Canje, Berbice.
Kaieteur News understands that Sankar and his wife had left their business establishment at Strand Road, New Amsterdam, and arrived home sometime around 19:35 hrs. Sankar’s wife exited their car and was opening the gate when two masked men armed with guns confronted Sankar in the car. They demanded cash and jewellery and grabbed the handbag belonging to the wife which was left in the car.
Cellular phones, an undisclosed amount of cash, phone cards, jewellery and a reading glass were stolen. The men then escaped in Sankar’s Burgundy Toyota Spacio, abandoning it at a cross street in Fort Ordinance. The car was found by police shortly after the robbery.
The items stolen were one Samsung Galaxy A51 cell phone; a Samsung Galaxy 7 cell phone, value at $70,000; a Samsung Note 8 cell phone, valued at $90,000; a J7 cell phone, value at $59,000; a J5 cell phone, valued at $55,000; a quantity of Digicel and GT&T phone cards; one gold chain said to be valued at $120,000; two gold rings with a cost price of $110,000 and a reading glass valued at $160,000.
Sankar has been a victim of armed robbery in the past but it is unclear if persons were prosecuted in those incidents. Police are currently working on a lead in an effort to find the perpetrators.
