Dear Editor,
I am writing this letter to the Prime Minister of Guyana, who has responsibility for the Guyana Power and Light. Sir, the residents of East Berbice are very frustrated and disgusted at the poor service being provided by GPL in our area. I don’t know what is happening at GPL but we have been getting frequent power outages for the longest while now and with no notification whatsoever. Mr. Dindial had given some explanations earlier about a blown transformer but the blackout continues. To make matters worse, whenever there is a blackout, GWI water supply goes off immediately. I’m surprised that no one from GWI haven’t made any complaints yet, as many of us know that this on and off interruption in power can seriously damage electrical components at the company. However, it seems like nobody cares a darn thing about what is happening. Sir, I need you to have a serious look at the operations at GPL because although we are having all these power outages, we are still paying the same amount of money on our bills as against a month when we didn’t have any power outages or sometimes higher depending on the period of blackouts not to mention the amount of food items in our refrigerators that have to be dumped, in a time where food items are so expensive because of the floods. Sir, I’m looking forward to your intervention into this frustrating situation.
Yours truly,
Anthony Welaidum
