Kaieteur News – The Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) has issued a fresh warning to the general public to beware of fraudsters who attempt to sell house lots to them, which are only available through the CH&PA.
In a public notice, the CH&PA reminded that persons should be on the alert for fraudsters and individuals purporting to be agents of the Authority.
“Please be reminded that all legitimate transactions are done at our main office at Brickdam and United Nations Place, Georgetown, or at our regional offices, where official receipts are issued for every monetary transaction. Individual transactions are not and should not be done in the fields or by individuals making site visits,” the notice said.
Additionally, the statement said, “only open-air transactions that are authorised and will be honoured by the Ministry/CH&PA are those conducted at our planned and announced ‘Dream Realised’ activities.”
“Any offer for land allocations is done in-person at our offices during regular working hours,” the statement said.
Last month, Minister of Housing, Collin Croal, reminded that persons should “safeguard themselves to operate in an honest way because when you do this, you are part of these schemes, you are also a part of the fraud.”
The Minister had explained that the internal control and system of the agency has been strengthened “to the extent to detect any type of fraud in the system.”
He observed that there were a number of fraudsters from outside of the system. “We have warned the public out there that there is only one way of conducting business with the CH&PA, and that is by coming into the Ministry and dealing directly with the Ministry.”
