Kaieteur News – The Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony recently announced that health authorities have seen an increase in persons being hospitalised with the COVID-19 disease. Following this, the Minister on Friday revealed that an average of 87 persons per day is being admitted into the hospital.
During Friday’s COVID-19 update, Dr. Anthony provided an average number of persons who have been hospitalised for the year thus far.
According to him, in the month of January, an average of 18 persons was admitted into the hospital each day. In February, approximately 23 persons were admitted a day and for March, 38 persons per day. From April to June, there has been an increase in numbers. In April, the Ministry recorded an average of 66 persons per day, while in May and June, about 87 persons were hospitalised each day.
Last week while highlighting the increase in hospitalisation, Minister Anthony explained that a small percentage of those persons are being admitted in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
“So what we have seen is a more severe form of the disease requiring hospitalisation and ICU care,” he stated.
Yesterday, the Ministry reported that 89 persons were admitted to the hospital with COVID-19, while 15 are in the COVID-19 ICU.
