Kaieteur News – A Moruca man, who had reportedly attempted to save himself on Tuesday from being murdered, was actually shot dead over an old grievance he had with his killer.
Shane Blake, 30, a miner of Hymakabra, Moruca Village, Region One, was killed around 05:20hrs. inside of an abandoned building at Apaiqua, Middle Mazaruni River, Region Seven. But before he received the fatal gunshot wound, Blake had tried to save himself from being killed by chopping his shooter to the shoulder with a cutlass.
His wounded killer had been on the run but was eventually caught by police the very next day (Wednesday) around 19:25hrs. While in custody, he admitted to shooting Blake. He did not state his motive for the killing, but cops had found out that it was an old grievance.
Kaieteur News had learnt as well from information received, that the suspect and Blake had a disagreement over a matter a long time back, and that often times they would get into heated arguments and threaten each other.
This newspaper was told, that it was the shooter’s intention to murder Blake that morning but his plan had almost backfired. According to a police report, Blake was asleep in the abandoned building and was awaken by the suspect. The suspect was armed with a handgun and reportedly ordered Blake to put on his clothes.
Based on other reports from the area, Blake was also ordered by his killer to step outside afterwards. He had reportedly acted as if he was complying with the order but located a cutlass nearby and fired a chop at his killer, wounding him.
Before Blake could have reacted any further, his killer retaliated by discharging a round. The bullet, according to police struck Blake to his upper chest and he fell to the ground as his killer ran away.
