Kaieteur News – Junior Calypso 2020 Monarch winner, Omaiah Aaliyah Hall, has recently been accepted into the Edna Manley College of Visual and Performing Arts in Jamaica and is currently seeking funds to cover her tuition.
The 19-year-old is very passionate about the arts and holds many titles across various disciplines, aside from singing; Ms. Hall is also a dancer, model, poet and writer. She was a finalist in the first ever Miss Guyana Teen Scholarship Pageant and was placed in the Top 5. In 2020, she entered the Junior Calypso Monarch Competition and dominated over nine other competitors; persistent and determined, Omaiah then went on to compete in the Senior Calypso Monarch competition where she was placed third.
Refusing to rest upon her laurels, Omaiah challenged herself earlier this year to walk down a path of self-discovery; along this path she explored her writing skills and is now a co-author of the book “The 4 C’s: Civility, Community, Creativity, Climate Change.”
In February, Ms. Hall applied at the Edna Manley College of Visual and Performing Arts to study Arts Management; somewhat two months later she received an email stating that she was accepted into the college of her dreams. However, what should have been a moment filled with excitement, was a moment filled with brooding for Ms. Hall; despite being accepted, she was not prepared for the reality of the situation, the $3.2M per year tuition. She described the challenge of raising the money as “heartbreaking.”
The determined teen started to send out letters to various ministries seeking a scholarship; she was hopeful that she would’ve been able to attain that but after months and months of trying and time running out, with no support, Omaiah Hall is now seeking help from the public to cover her tuition fees. “I’m pleading with persons to assist me in not only making my dreams a reality, but investing in the culture of our nation.”
She added also “My goal after pursuing this course is to return to Guyana and build on the Arts foundation of my country with the career goal of becoming a creative director. The person making high-level creative decisions, and with those decisions oversee the creation of creative assets such as advertisements, products, events, or logos. This will definitely benefit Guyana holding our creative sector to such a standard unlike any in the Caribbean, the goal is to return with Guyana being the top spot for culture and creativity in the Caribbean.”
Omaiah is currently trying to raise the funds to cover her first year tuition and accommodation, which needs to be paid by mid-August 2021. Persons who are interested in donating towards her tuition fees can contact her on her face book: I Am Omaiah Hall or on Instagram: beingomaiah or on telephone number (592) 616-9946.
