Kaieteur News – The burnt-out car that was found abandoned along the Linden-Soesdyke Highway, mere hours after Ricardo Fagundes was gunned down in front of Palm Court on Monday March 22, is the same one that was used by the men who killed him. Fagundes better known as “Paper Shorts” was slain around 22:00hrs. that day.
Cops had long suspected that the car was the same one used in his murder but had only recently found sufficient key evidence to confirm it.
Investigators related, “The burnt-out car is the same heavily-tinted white Toyota Fielder used to transport Fagundes’ murderers to and from the scene.”
Confirming the development with Kaieteur News as well was Crime Chief, Wendell Blanhum. Kaieteur News recently reported that aided by CCTV footage, the investigators were able to trace the Toyota Fielder from North Road, Georgetown to Palm Court, located on Main Street, prior to the gunning down of Fagundes.
Based on other video footage of the shooting, the car was seen parked outside of Palm Court for a while, until Fagundes stepped out. As he walked towards a black pickup parked on the western end of Main Street, his assassins emerged from the back passenger seat of the car and ran towards him, riddling him with bullets.
Fagundes dropped to the ground and they fired a few more shots at him before re-entering the car as it sped off in a southern direction.
His family members had told this media house that police had disclosed to them that they have identified someone who might be the prime suspect in the heinous killing of their loved one.
That individual, according to relatives, “is seen driving a car around the city every day with police escorts and taking photos with top politicians of the country.”
The relatives disclosed too that that investigators hinted that others are involved in the crime and updates to them will be provided as the investigation unfolds. Investigators reportedly told them that they are pursuing certain leads and it would take a while for them to wrap up the entire investigation.
However, the relatives expressed their doubts that cops will be able to arrest the prime suspect. They stated that the reason for their doubts is because the suspect is a “very wealthy and influential individual.” Nevertheless, should the detectives not keep their word; Fagundes’ relatives said that they would stage protests in the streets demanding justice.
On the night of his assassination, Fagundes was socialising with his best friend, Roger Khan, and others at Palm Court.
He had reportedly stepped out of the bar to bring Khan’s pickup closer to the entrance but he was killed before doing so. Khan had publicly said that he was the intended target and during Fagundes funeral reiterated “every one of the bullets was meant for me (Khan).”
Fagundes and Khan were almost the same height and on the night of his murder, they were reportedly dressed alike.
