Kaieteur News – Residents of Prospect, New Housing Scheme were visited by the Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal along with Chief Executive Officer of the Central Housing & Planning Authority, Sherwyn Greaves, and the Community Development Department for the Prospect Phase One Community Aesthetic Enhancement Project early yesterday morning.
Residents were each given two plants, an oleander plant and a fruit tree of their choice, as part of the community’s beautification project.
The plants were donated by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Central Housing and Planning Authority. During the exercise, Minister Croal reportedly spoke of the significance of the exercise as it relates to enhancing the environment and strengthening community involvement.
He told residents that the activity hold some important lessons about taking care of the environment and sustainability. The minister stated that while community development projects are simple, they are meaningful and impactful, are geared at strengthening communities and ensure that the residents are resilient and sustainable.
Croal further stated that the importance of community involvement is a key stakeholder in building cohesive and sustainable communities. Residents were also told of the Ministry’s plan to address the issue of cattle freely roaming the area as plans are in place for relocation.
As for CEO Sherwyn Greaves, he noted that this exercise will be replicated in other communities.
Also present at yesterday’s activity was Priscilla Brummell, District Crop Extension Officer at the Ministry of Agriculture and Deputy Director of the CH&PA Community Development Department, who spearheaded the activity.
