Kaieteur News – Three seamen who allegedly murdered their in-law, a bus driver, were on Monday charged at the Providence Magistrate Court.
They are, Kevin O’ Neil, 21; Anal Hope, 19; and a juvenile, 17, all of First Dam, Alliance Road, Timehri, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
The charge was read to them by Principal Magistrate, Judy-Ann Latchman, which alleged that on May 11, 2021, they murdered Marcus Julius Thomas, 39, at his home located in Kuru Kururu Sandpit, Linden/ Soesdyke Highway.
The defendants were not required to plea to the indictable charge and were remanded until June 10, 2021.
Kaieteur News had reported that the trio is Thomas’ in-laws and had murdered him over an old grievance they had for a number of years.
Around 18:30 hrs. on Tuesday May 11, 2021, they allegedly invaded Thomas’ home by kicking open his door. Thomas’ neighbours recalled hearing loud noises and rumbling coming from his house.
Not long after they recalled seeing his three in-laws fleeing the scene and Thomas staggering out of his house, calling for help. He collapsed seconds later and remained motionless in his yard.
Crime scene experts had observed that his remains bore what appeared to be multiple stab wounds. There was also a wound to the throat which led detectives to believe that it was slit. The suspects were arrested on May 13 at Parika, East Bank of Essequibo (EBE), and it was later revealed that they had attempted to murder Thomas three times in the past.
One of them had chopped Thomas before but had always managed to elude police.
