Kaieteur News – MoH rejects claim that Berbice woman died after receiving vaccine
Three more women have died from COVID-19 complications even as the Ministry of Health (MoH) reported yesterday that 180 additional people have been infected with the virus.
Additionally, the Ministry refuted claims that one woman in Berbice died after taking the vaccine to prevent the disease.
According to the MoH, the latest deaths include an 80-year-old woman and a 72-year-old woman, who are both from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) and who both died on May 14. The other woman, who succumbed, was a 40-year-old woman from Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), who died on May 13.
The release said that the patients were admitted with COVID-19 like symptoms but died while receiving care at the ministry’s medical institutions. They were tested for COVID-19 upon admission and their results, subsequently, showed that they were positive. The three deaths take the total death toll for Guyana to 338. The MoH noted nonetheless along with the deaths and new cases, an additional 52 people have now recovered after being infected with the virus.
Meanwhile, in a statement denouncing the misinformation being pedaled in relation to the COVID-19 vaccines by persons, particularly in Berbice, Region Six, the Ministry said that it categorically rejected as mischievous and unsubstantiated claims on social media that a resident of Region Six died on May 13 after taking the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
According to its records, the Ministry stated, the 40-year-old woman was administered her first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on April 17 at the Skeldon Hospital and was due to return for her second on May 19, 2021. The Ministry clarified that there is no evidence that her death is linked to the COVID-19 vaccine.
The MoH yesterday appealed to everyone 18 years and older to visit a vaccination site in their community and get vaccinated against the deadly COVID-19 disease. The Ministry also reiterated that the COVID-19 vaccines being administered are safe and effective.
