Kaieteur News – A small amount of the Russian Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccines was spoiled after a health team was left in Gunns Village, Region Nine.
This was revealed by Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony. The Minister explained that a team of health workers was forced to stay in the village for three days due to an aircraft delay.
Dr. Anthony said that there was no dry ice to keep the vaccines at their required temperature since flights were delayed. He explained that the Russian Sputnik V vaccines have to be stored at -18 to -20 degrees, once the vaccines are taken out of the freezers and containers stored, the dry ice keeps them cold for three days, after the three days without sufficient temperature the vaccines will go bad.
The Minister highlighted that the vaccination rate in Region Nine is just over 33%.
