DEAR EDITOR,
The author of the missive titled ‘None of development promised by Govt. officials includes basic services and amenities’ (SN May 7), was expressly, absolutely and clearly direct in pointing out the absorption with mega projects in the name of development to the detriment of the seemingly small and ordinary works, which should also be in the name of development.
So we are told of the number of hotels (we have to wonder why all these hotels?), in coming years but no closer to know when blackouts will end in the number of months or years.
Or, the continued flooding of city streets and communities each time it rains. Or City Hall cannot say when garbage would be collected, if your collection day falls on a holiday.
And the list goes on. The letter could be seen as an open and frank assessment and plea to the authorities that while mega projects are important, so too are the seemingly small and ordinary works which citizens deserve and are entitled to and should be given the same and equal attention and opportunities. Development must not appear to be lopsided but balanced.
Citizens deserve no less.
Sincerely
Shamshun Mohamed
