Kaieteur News – BlackBull softball cricket team won the inaugural six overs WeCare/Shiv Gajraj Computers/S and K Construction West Demerara Softball Cup.
The competition was played at the Zeeburg Sports Club ground under strict COVID-19 guidelines and regulations. In the one day event five teams were accepted and as was promised by the organisers that the teams would be accepted on a first come basis. The five teams that battled for the title were BlackBull, Zeeburg, Delhi Capitals, Slayer and Hype Park.
In the semi final BlackBull overcame Zeeburg on their home ground. Zeeburg batted first and only managed 38 for 4 off their allotted overs with G. Narine of BlackBull picking up three wickets in his one over. BlackBull replied with 39 in 2.3 overs. G. Narine made 21 and R. Poloram 12; both batsmen were not out.
It was expected to be a thrilling final after the performance of Delhi Capitals in previous matches during the day, but BlackBull made easy work of DC.
DC batted first and just managed to score 35 all out with Mohamed top scoring with 15. Pick of the bowlers were A. Seepersaud 3 for 15 and R. Poloram 2 for 14.
In reply BlackBull made 39 in 2.4overs. G. Narine top scored with 26 not out and R. Poloram made 23 not out.
After the final, in a simple presentation ceremony, the organizers thanked the players for taking part and most of all thanked them for adhering to the COVID-19 guidelines and regulations set out for the game. WeCare representative also stated that they have adhered to the policy of not accepting large crowds at the games.
The winner and runner up were presented with their prizes along with G. Narine of BlackBull who was awarded with the MVP prize for scoring an overall total of 96 runs and picking up 3 wickets. He also took the man of the match in the final for scoring 26 not out. Best Bowler prize went to G. Gansham of Delhi Capitals for an outstanding figure of 2-0-7-3 and Best Batsman prize went to Troy (only name given) of Hype Park for scoring 49 runs in an innings.
