West Indies Sports Complex 1st to donate to gears project to young cricketers
Located at 43 Robb Street between Wellington and Camp Streets, the West Indies Sports Complex has been in existence for over four decades and Monday became to first entity to make a contribution to the ‘Cricket gears for young and promising cricketers in Guyana project’ which has been endorsed by GCB and organised Anil Beharry and Kishan Das of the USA.
The presentation was made by West Indies Sports complex Cashier Rafeena Ganie to GCB official Anil Beharry as Sales Representative Renaldo Forinha shares the moment.
Owned by the late Feroze Khan, a former Everest First-Division cricketer and now run by his two sons Imran and Javeed, the popular Sports Store donated four junior bats and four pairs of junior batting pads to the project.
The donation was organised by former Berbice and Guyana off-spinner Sean Devers who is now a cricket commentator and Sports Journalist with Kaieteur News.
The donation was made by the WISC’s cashier Rafeena Ganie to Beharry, a former BCB president and Berbice cricketer on behalf of Khan siblings.
Beharry, a Technocrat with responsibility for Good Governance, Marketing and Finance of the GCB provided a brief background of the “Cricket gears for young and promising cricketers in Guyana Project”.
“With my recent role on the GCB, I feel compelled to further the cause of cricket in Guyana, young cricketers in particular. This project is done in collaboration with Kishan Das of the USA and will target young talented cricketers in need of assistance with cricket gears. I will go around the length and breadth of Guyana to do talent spotting and will also be guided by Cricket Club leaders to identify young interested talent.
Persons who wish to contribute new and used cricket gears are free to make contact with me and Kishan of the USA on +1-718-664-0896 to make your donation. I can assure you that accountability will be at the highest level. Let’s join together to provide opportunities to our young cricketers and keep them away from idleness, drugs and crime.”
