Kaieteur News – A businessman is expected to be sentenced on March 22, 2021, after he pleaded guilty to the unlawful possession of spirituous liquors. The man, Jermaine Liverpool, 37, of Plantain Walk, West Bank Demerara, made his first appearance in the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate, Crystal Lambert.
According to section 48 (2) of the Intoxicating Liquor Licensing Act, “Everyone who sells or offers for sale any spirituous liquor other than rum, except by wholesale or in some place or premises for which he or someone by whom he is employed has a licence authorizing the sale thereof and in accordance with the authority conferred by the licence, shall be liable to a fine of not less than Five thousand dollars and not more than Fifty thousand dollars.”
He pleaded guilty to the charge and was placed on $10,000 bail until sentencing. The matter was then adjourned.
