Kaieteur News – A quality and responsible all-round performance with bat and ball by West Indies Under-15 player and Captain of the Port Mourant Cricket Club team, Rampertab Ramnauth, resulted in a well deserved 30-run win over arch rivals Albion Cricket Club (ACC) in the final of the long awaited Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) / Lewison General Store Under-15 competition yesterday at the Jai Hand Cricket Ground, Albion, Berbice.

Player-of-the-match Rampertab Ramnauth, who opened the batting, laid the foundation for his side’s eventual 158-9 off their 50 overs, batting first. The exciting left handed batsman stroked a classy 61 (6×4 3×6) and put on 35 for the first wicket with Rampersaud Ramnauth who made 6.
He was dropped on 46 as the ball slipped through the hands of the fielder on the midwicket boundary and trickled into the boundary boards to bring up his half century. Only two other batters reached double figures; extras contributing a healthy 35 runs (29 wides 3 byes 3 leg byes).
Ganesh Seosahai smacked 17 (2×4) coming in at number 7 to add momentum in the closing overs while Romesh Bharrat, batting at number three, made a composed 15, he also reached the boundary boards twice.
Taking a pair of wickets each for Albion were left arm spinner Kumar Deopersaud (2-13) from his 10 overs which included three maidens, off-spinner Devin Lalbehari (2-15) from three overs and another off-spinner, Tameshwar Mangal (2-32) from 10 overs with a single maiden. There was one for Shared Persaud (1-30) form his quota of 10 overs.
With a 159 required to win the match and the 2020 tournament that was delayed after covid-19 struck, Albion’s batsmen were never allowed to settle in as they lost wickets at regular intervals as a result of the skillful management of his bowlers by Port Mourant’s Captain, Rampertab Ramnauth.
Coming on as the sixth and final bowler, Captain Ramnauth’s leg spin was way too hot for the Albion batters to handle on a sunny afternoon as he snared 5-32 from 7.1 overs; Albion being bowled out for 128 off 38.1 overs.
Lending solid support with the ball was Khanromel Budwa whose off spin brought him rewards of 4-36 from 10 overs. Shiv Harripersaud led with the bat for Albion with 30 (3×4), while Damon Cecil made 28 (4×4) and Antonio Ramphal 17 (1×4), the only batters reaching double figures; the last three batsmen falling without scoring. Extras again made a healthy contribution of 26 (20 wides 5 byes 1 leg bye).
President of the BCB Hilbert Foster in brief remarks at the presentation ceremony, congratulated the players for making the tournament possible whilst singling out the champions for special mention.
Foster also took the opportunity to brief the players about the plans his Board has for their on and off field development for 2021. Presenting the trophies to the respective teams along with their prize monies was Chairman of the BCB Competitions Committee, Leslie Solomon.
