Kaieteur News – Seventy-three-year-old Olivia Stephen, the foster mother of the cigarette buyer who was slain by a bullet that missed its intended target, was on Friday last visited by ranks of the Ruimveldt Police Station. They were accompanied by a pastor of the Police Corps and Faith Network.
Stephen’s foster son, 54-year-old Aulden Cush, popularly known as ‘Alligator’, was killed on February 6 while purchasing cigarettes at a shop located on Cooper Street between Independence Boulevard and James Street, Albouystown.
As the visiting contingent offered their condolences to the bereaved woman, she told them that her son was a mechanic and expressed her desire to see his killer prosecuted. The ranks promised that they will do their best to trap the shooter and ensure that justice is served. The pastor also said a prayer for the woman before they left.
According to reports received by this media house, on February 6 Cush was standing in front of the shop when an argument between two men ensued. One of the men has since been identified as ‘Black Boy’. Reports suggest that while ‘Black Boy’ remained at the location, the other man left but returned shortly after on a motorcycle armed with a gun.
He began shooting at ‘Black Boy’ and one of the bullets struck Cush to the neck instead of the intended target. Cush, after being shot, fell to the ground and reportedly bled to death.
Kaieteur News was also told that the shooter continued to pursue his target and shot him too before escaping. ‘Black Boy’ reportedly ran and collapsed at a location in Laing Avenue where he was rescued and taken to a hospital.
This newspaper later learnt that he had received gunshot wounds to one of his arms. Sources had later revealed that cops had detained one individual for questioning in relation to the matter but the shooter is said to still be at large.
