Kaieteur News – Lightening flashes before my eyes,
lighting up the sky like fireworks.
Menacing thunder roars in the dark,
while the sullen wind blows the curtain asunder.
The rasping raindrops run down the pane.
I’m terrified of what’s not there.
I shiver with fright.
I slowly pull the blanket over my chest.
My eyes scanned a black long armed shadow
near where the wardrobe once was.
I’m petrified as I try to utter a single word.
Leaves begin to rustle nearby.
“Sam” a faded whisper calls out to me.
I slowly turn my head towards the door.
Another shadow is slowly approaching me.
My body quiver immensely.
The dim light flicks on, blinding me.
The shadows disappear.
My mother whispers again “Sam.”
The dry leaves from the saguaro plant
blows over to my bed from the whooshing wind.
