DEAR EDITOR,
It’s heartening to see the continuing overhaul; for lack of a better word, of the country. It is also interesting to note Ministers onsite visits to contractors to plead with them to stay on schedule, if they seem to be backsliding. Which brings me to the need to have dedicated Project Managers for the slew of projects coming down the pipeline. We hope they are individuals in place whose main responsibility is to ensure that all action items on project plans; from A-Z are on track. The recent articles of so many abandoned and unfinished projects were preventable.
Next, is the need for modern urban planners with emphasis on a “Green Environment”. As more private investors come with plans for food courts/dining/restaurant, and sedentary lifestyles; I believe we need to broaden our outlook to developing more green spots outside of the main metropolis areas for Walking/Bicycles Trails and other outdoor activities for a healthier more active lifestyle. Even now, and for decades; the most favourite jaunts in the Caribbean have been places like Jamaica, Barbados, Antigua and Aruba, since they have more of the key attraction spots (e.g.: the Aqua-Green, Clear Blue Diving waters). Anticipate a boom in weekend jaunts to these countries by investors shortly, as their lifestyles after work, are preferably athletic activities outdoors in creative open spaces.
Granted the heat is brutal; indoor gyms can only do so much, and our soil is rich and landscape is green and lush enough for development for a more active lifestyle-outside.
