Kaieteur News – After a lengthy hiatus competitive Golf will make a grand return to the Lusignan Golf Course when the Panko Steel Fabricating tournament tees off from 09:00hrs on Sunday. The tournament is expected to attract some of the top golfers locally and will be played in pairs.
The competition was launched on Wednesday at Crown Mining Supplies Building located on Dennis Street, Campbellville and will be played under strict covid guidelines. Speaking at the launching ceremony, Club Captain Patrick Prashad said the format is called “Pair 9-hole better ball”, where two golfers will compete as a team.
“Two golfers will tee off at a hole and as the game progress they can play the ball that is in a better position to complete the hole.”
In this format one score – counts per hole for each team and the team with the lowest total score for the round wins. General Manager of Panko Steel Fabrication which is located at Coldigen, East Coast Demerara, Sandy Ramsundar said the company has been involved in the fabricating industry for quite some time and they have become more prominent in recent times.
“The reason for coming on board is because of the passion our founder and CEO Mr. Panko Ramsundar has for the sport. He has been involved in golf for a number of years, developing his skills from a caddy to become the golfer he is today. Additionally, he wants to give back to his community and help in the development of the sport.
President of the Lusignan Golf Club, Pur Persaud, lauded Mr. Ramsundar for the initiative and informed that six prizes which will be donated to charity.
“We welcome this sponsorship and would like to encourage other companies to come on board and support the game.”
Persaud informed that permission was granted by the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Sport to host the event so we are open for other tournaments. “We wish Panko Steel success in his business and we do look forward to his continued support. We are expecting some 50 players and a keen competition is expected.”
The prizes that will be given to a charity of the winner’s choice are: first place $40,000, second place $30,000 and third place $20,000. (Zaheer Mohamed)
