Kaieteur News – Adrian Fernandes and teammate Anand Ramchand have confirmed their participation in the 2021 Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC)/Secure Innovations & Concepts Inc (SIC) Endurance Championship where they will look to extend the win-streak of Team Ramchand Wreckers.
Fernandes, who pilots a Gillette powered Toyota Levin, has been the 1600cc and overall champion for 5 consecutive years and he is keen to return to the top podium position this season after the covid-19 hit 2020 season.
Team Ramchand Wreckers’ mechanic Anil (Nala) Persaud has been working round-the-clock to bring their championship winning car up to speed and it was revealed that it will be ready just in time for this Sunday’s showdown at the South Dakota Circuit, Timehri, where the team will defend their title in the three-hour long race.
In an invited comment with Kaieteur Sport, Anand Ramchand, who drives a Ramchand Wreckers sponsored Toyota Celica in the championship, noted that he is excited for the start of the season and he is very happy with how preparations with his machine are coming along.
The former Starlet Cup champion explained that although he expects tough competition from the rest of the guys who are gunning to make sure that Wreckers don’t make it six consecutive team championships in a row, he expects it to be business as usual.
Fernandes mentioned to Kaieteur Sport that he is pleased that the GMR&SC has been able to organise this event and he called for a safe and fun-filled day.
The three-hour event is anticipated to see a full grid of cars and will precede the first round of the Drag Championship.
The event will be held in accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines which means that all participants must wear masks, sanitise and be subject to mandatory temperature tests.
Prospective competitors are reminded that helmets and gloves are required and those interested in competing are asked to make contact with the GMR&SC via their Albert Street office.
