Kaieteur News – Two knife bandits, on Tuesday, slashed a 40-year-old labourer under his chin as they robbed him of his cellphone. The incident occurred at La Retraite, West Bank Demerara (WBD), around 20:30 hrs.
The labourer, John Benjamin, of Old Road, La Retraite, was reportedly sitting under a bus shed along the public road at the time.
Benjamin told police that the two men approached him and asked if he knows anyone by the name of “Devon.” He reportedly responded by telling the men that he is not acquainted with anyone by that name.
Police reported that one of the bandits then grabbed Benjamin by his neck and grabbed his cellphone out of his hands.
He, according to reports, tried to fight back but the other bandit pulled out a knife and slashed him under his chin before they ran away and entered a silver-grey Toyota Spacio, which was waiting nearby.
Benjamin told investigators that the car sped off in the direction of La Grange.
He reportedly raised an alarm and was assisted by public-spirited citizens, who accompanied him to the Wales Police Station.
Benjamin was then taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where doctors treated him for his injury.
