– cops on the hunt for two passengers
Kaieteur News – A driver was arrested yesterday after his passengers reportedly ran away and left him with two boxes of 35cartridges 12-gauge ammunition.
The driver was arrested around 04:30 hrs. at Back Street, Weldaad, West Coast Berbice (WCB).
According to police, ranks were carrying out a stop and search exercise between 04:00 and 05:00 hrs.
along the Weldaad Public Road, when they spotted a silver grey car driving on to Back Street just before arriving at their road block.
Ranks, suspecting that the occupants of the car were trying to avoid them, decided to follow the car into the street.
Police reported that the car was parked with its lights off. As they got closer, two persons exited the car and ran away, leaving the driver alone.
The ranks proceeded to search the car in his (the driver’s) presence and found the illegal ammunition.
Other items found in the car were a slasher, a Yamaha brand boat engine, a gasoline bottle, a RB battery, one power bar, a blender and a tool kit with tools.
The ranks decided to search the surrounding area for the passengers who ran away, which led to the discovery of a Remington 12-gauge shotgun.
The driver has since been arrested and taken into custody as cops continue to hunt for the passengers.
