Kaieteur News – The body of a 74-year-old pensioner, who was reportedly missing for several days, was found submerged in a trench at Hampton Court, Essequibo Coast, yesterday morning.
The body has since been identified as Deodat, called John, a resident of Devonshire Castle, Essequibo Coast. It is believed that Deodat, who is a known alcoholic, drowned sometime between Wednesday January 6, 2021 and Saturday January 9, 2021. The body was found sometime around 06:30 hrs. yesterday morning.
Daughter of the now dead man, Sabitree Deodat, told police that her father visited her on Wednesday January 6, 2021 about 17:15 hrs. She also told police that he appeared to have been under the influence of alcohol, and subsequently departed for his home sometime around 17:30 hrs.
When the man did not make it home, his family members became worried and commenced a search for him. Their search came to an end yesterday, when tragically, the body of the elderly man was found floating with his face down in the Hampton Court trench. An alarm was raised and the body was fished out and positively identified.
The body was taken to the Suddie Public Hospital and then escorted to the Suddie Mortuary, where it presently awaits a post mortem examination.
