Kaieteur News – The sinkhole that appeared on Monday at Vreed-en-hoop, West Bank Demerara, was not caused by natural forces.
Rather, it was caused by a man who was living under the bridge. It appears that the man dug out the sand from the side of the road causing it to weaken. Eventually, it caused the road to sink.
The hole appeared not far from the branch of the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry.
This was reported yesterday by Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Deodat Indar.
Repairs have started on the roadway, the main link to West Coast Demerara and the Essequibo islands and coast.
