Kaieteur News – The Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) has identified 13 players for a provisional training squad in preparation for their participation in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Pre-Qualifiers which is scheduled to be held in El Salvador next year from February 17 -21.
Guyana are the reigning Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) senior men’s champions after winning their first title in Suriname, 2018, and they will be looking to make another first by making it through to the second round of FIBA World Cup qualifiers.
The GABF would’ve been disappointed after their petition to the National Covid-19 task force to begin training in preparation for that tournament was denied, but head of the body; Mike Singh, in an invited comment with Kaieteur Sport, revealed that the National COVID-19 task force instructed the GABF to reapply for approval in the first week of January, 2021.
The provisional 13-man training squad reads: Stanton Rose, Travis Belgrave, Travis Burnett, Akeem Crandon, Delroy James, Anthony Moe, Nikkoloi Smith, Yannick Tappin, Timothy Thompson, Ray Victor, Shaine Webster, Terron Welch and Kevon Wiggins.
