STANDARDS IN FOCUS
Kaieteur News – On Christmas morning, many folks will be scampering to see their gifts under the Christmas trees. If you are one of them and your gift turns out to be a cellular phone, good for you!
To ensure that your new phone is of quality and performs the way it should, you must be aware of some important details, which verify its newness and general care and use.
As the organization responsible for monitoring the quality of cellular phones offered for sale in Guyana, the GNBS takes this opportunity to share the following information with you as consumers.
Firstly, if your phone is newly purchased, it should not have signs of scratches, stains, fading on the keypad and display areas. Additionally, check for tampering of screws or evidence of screwdriver use.
Secondly, check for original manual, charger and battery. The brand and series of these should be the same as the phone.
Thirdly, check the call timer, check for missed calls, stored numbers, text messages and dialed calls in the phone which are evidence of prior use.
Fourthly, to make sure the phone is not refurbished, you can check the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number by inputting *#06# and the number will appear on the screen. That number should correspond with the IMEI number stated at the back of the phone.
To ensure that your phone works well and last for an extended period, every user should take the following care of his/her device:
Do not allow your phone to fall. To reduce the impact of a fall, put your phone into an appropriate casing.
Do not allow your phone to get wet, as this can cause corrosion and damage.
Do not put your phone in your back pocket because this may cause unwanted pressure on the device or it is likely to be crushed if you sit on it.
Do not download or store too much data on your device, as this can result in its sluggish performance or possible crash.
Do not handle your device roughly, as this may impact ware and tare.
Finally, do not try to repair your phone when something goes wrong. If it is under warranty, take it back to the store where it was bought for repairs. Otherwise, take it to an expert.
