Kaieteur News – Two of the country’s main internet companies yesterday experienced outages as a result of problems in the region’s network.
However, both the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GTT) and E-Networks Inc. said that back-up systems helped to restrict the fallouts.
According to GTT, the internet outage affected the region, with some customers likely experiencing service interruption.
“Due to our significant investments in building the maximum resiliency available to serve our customers, no widespread outage should be expected,” said Public Relations Manager at GTT, Jasmin Harris. “Customers should not have any significant challenges during this period.”
She said that her team was monitoring the situation closely.
Privately-controlled E-networks Inc., also acknowledged the outage which occurred in the morning hours and which lasted approximately two hours.
The company blamed a region-wide shutdown which affected multiple internet providers in Barbados, Trinidad and other islands.
“We were able to re-route our internet traffic to our backup path and are pleased to update you that all internet services are fully restored. We once again apologize for the inconvenience caused and would like to express our sincere gratitude for your patience and understanding during this time.”
Both US-owned GTT and E-Networks have landed sub-sea data cables with regional links to Guyana.
