Kaieteur News – The Sophia couple that was on Friday last busted with $1.5M in narcotics was yesterday granted bail when they appeared before a city Magistrate.
The defendants, Nyron Wilson, 33, and 19-year-old Nadira John, of 804 ‘C’ Field Sophia, Georgetown, made their appearance in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Courts before Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus to answer to two drug related charges.
The couple denied both charges that were read to them. The first charge stated that on November 20, at Sophia, Georgetown, they had 1,016 grams of amphetamines in their possession for the purpose of trafficking. The second charge alleges that on the same date and at the same location, they had eight grams of cannabis.
The Magistrate granted the couple bail in the sum of $75, 000 each for the first charge and $5,000 bail each for the latter charge. The matter was adjourned to December 21, 2020.
Kaieteur News had reported that ranks from the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) busted the duo with $1.5M worth in suspected marijuana, amphetamines (ecstasy) and methamphetamines at their home.
According to a CANU press statement, the drugs were discovered during a raid in the bedroom of a house located in Sophia.
