Kaieteur News – Three children among several persons were on Saturday injured when the cars they were traveling in collided with each other on the Moblissa Public Road, Soesdyke, Linden Highway.
Among the injured are Andy Pompey, 41, the driver of motor car PXX 8574 a major of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) stationed at Camp Seweyo; Shennet Pompey, 42, Shaquida Pompey, 13, and Aqueena Pompey, 11 all of 586 Section A, Block Y, Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD); Krishna Seenarine, 28, driver of motor car PVV 8911 of Kara Kara Squatting area Amelia’s Ward, Linden; Sonia Roopnarine 19; and one-year-old Jaden Lall of Lot 466 Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden.
According to the police report, the accident occurred at around 10:45hrs. Investigators disclosed that motor car PXX 8574 was proceeding south along the eastern side of the road, when it was alleged by Pompey that motor car PVV 8911 – which was proceeding north along the western side of the road – overtook a vehicle and ended up in his path.
Upon seeing this, Pompey told police, he pulled to the east to avoid a collision but despite his effort the other vehicle ended up colliding with the right side of his vehicle. It was reported that both drivers lost control of their vehicles and ended up off the road in a ditch.
The drivers and occupants were taken out of their vehicles in a conscious state by public spirited citizens and were taken to the Linden Public Hospital. According to the report, Shennett Pompey, Aqueena Pompey, Shaquida Pompey and Jaden Lall were seen and examined by doctors on duty and were treated and sent away. Andy Pompey reportedly suffered a fractured right leg and was treated and also sent away.
Sonia Roopnarine was referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where she was further seen and examined by doctors on duty and was admitted a patient in the female surgical ward suffering a fractured right hip.
Meanwhile, the driver of motor car PVV 8911, Krishna Seenarine is in custody as the investigation is still ongoing.
