Kaieteur News – The Government Analyst-Food and Drug Department (GA-FDD) was impressed with the layout, cleanliness, available records and general condition of the Morning Glory Cereal Rice Factory.
On October 23, a team from the GA-FDD visited the factory which is located in Anna Regina, Essequibo Coast.
The team noted that only minor violations were observed with the factory since environmental conditions, processing and staff records were perused to the satisfaction of the GA-FDD. Samples were taken and submitted for analysis (yeast and mold, moisture and water activity levels all parameters that would further demonstrate the satisfactory conditions of the Morning Glory Factory and product).
During the visit, GA-FDD revealed that the factory was recommended for license to continue manufacturing in 2020 and beyond.
The Food and Drug Department said it would therefore issue a License/Permit to manufacture, since this inspection follows on the heel of the department acquiring accreditation status. The team added that this particular factory and its products, and License/Permit would be affixed the A2LA Logo.
The department said it hopes that this product would soon be exported from Guyana with intentions that the requisite Free Sale Certificate (FSC) along with Guyana and A2LA accreditation stamp which among other things would attest to the Morning Glory Inc. compliance with the local regulatory authority, would be issued.
The Morning Glory Rice Factory was funded by the Government of Guyana in January 2015 and established as an agro-processing facility in 2017 under the direct of the Institute and Applied Science and Technology (IAST). The product is distributed by Ansa Mcal and could be found in all leading stores and supermarket across Guyana.
Inspection activities for local manufacturing companies are shared between inspectors of the GA-FDD and Environmental Health Offices (EHO) or Sanitary Inspectors (SI) in the 10 administrative Regions of Guyana.
