Reordering of priorities needed

DEAR EDITOR,

Given the recent news in the US media that the President of China has stated to his Military to prepare for war, it is imperative that our Government revisits its priorities. All expansionary projects should be shelved and an increased focus placed on improving our medical facilities and medical supplies, power supply, food access and production, revenue generation initiatives, housing and current essential infrastructure. In addition, the savings level within the national purse needs to increase significantly in preparation for a very difficult global trade and economic environment. The current tension between the super powers risks disrupting economic normalcy in our hemisphere and the realignment of other global powers in support of Venezuela brings the increased risk of an impending war next door to Guyana. The added fragility of our economic growth in non oil and gas sectors will add exposure to market disruption and supply chain shortages. For these reasons we must begin to plan for the resulting scenarios including the worst case of active military engagement near our borders.
