BFA President (ag) Shurwin Forde (left) and Nigel Felix hands over chair to BFA Secretary, Joseph Simon.
Long serving Secretary of the Berbice Football Association (BFA), Joseph E. Simon was yesterday the recipient of a new folding wheelchair compliments of the President (Colin Wilson) and members of the Overseas Disturbance Response Group (ODRG), Trellis Family and the BFA.
Simon is presently nursing a disability of his left lower limb which drove the donors to collaborate and present the much-needed piece of equipment. The handing over was done by President (ag) of the BFA, Mr. Shurwin Forde and Mr. Nigel Felix, who are both local members of the ODRG.
In brief remarks, Mr. Forde echoed the sentiments of ODRG’s Wilson and the Trellis Family, in that, they were all happy to be of assistance to the long serving administrator who has given selfless and yeomen service to the sport over the years.
The donors also noted that in Simon’s time of need they are all gratified to be of assistance even in this small way to aid his desire of still rendering assistance to the sport which he has not given up on despite his many challenges. They have all promised to be of assistance in the future.
Mr. Simon, whose left leg was amputated in January 2019, has served sports including football in various capacities for more than forty years and still performs duties of Secretary of the BFA, a position that he has held consistently since 1999.
Simon first joined the football arena as a Referee in 1979 and after few years, he branched off into administration serving under Mr. Errol Alphonso who was at one time, the longest serving President of the BFA.
