DEAR EDITOR,
Am I the only one who recognizes that the Pompeo trip to Guyana had only one purpose, and that was to strong arm our puny leaders to sign off on an undeveloped oil field?
Sure, he threw in a couple of other stops in the area but, come on!
The Secretary of State, in the midst of COVID 19, came to Guyana to leave no doubt in Jagdeo’s mind – Exxon is a huge tax base for the US government, and we’re not going to let Guyana endanger that.
Of course, “fees” would have been paid under the table, just like they were to the previous Government Administrators, so now both Parties have been paid. Back to business now, Guyana!
Exxon is getting its comeuppance globally, kicked off by the US stock exchange for poor financial performance, losing money in all its other drilling Operations worldwide causing it to close them down. Exxon is promoting Guyana to its investors as its Shining Knight, capable of reversing all Exxon’s financial woes!
In comes the enforcer, Pompeo to do what the US does best. Bully! And a few days later, agreement is signed.
One day, if there’s a God, we’re going to get a Leader with the country’s interests first and foremost. Not holding my breath.
Respectfully,
Michael Ali
