DEAR EDITOR,
The Management of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) notes the recent circulation of an erroneous text, which suggests that on October 5th, 2020 forty of the GPHC’s staff tested positive for COVID-19. We wish to clarify that this is not true. Over the past eight (8) months, staff from various departments at the GPHC have tested positive for COVD-19. These persons would have undertaken the recommended period of isolation and treatment before resuming duty. Contact tracing has revealed that approximately 85% of these persons were not exposed at the GPHC. The safety of the staff and patients at the GPHC continues to be our utmost priority; for this reason management maintains that standard precautions be observed by all persons in and around the hospital’s compound. We remain committed to providing all the necessary PPE’s for the protection of our staff, particularly those who interact with patients daily. We wish to remind the public that verifying information and seeking clarification where necessary is essential as we navigate this pandemic. We also wish to thank our dedicated staff for the tireless commitment to providing care to our patients during these unprecedented times.
