local fully online chess tournament where Queen’s College was well represented.
The kids played for just about three hours in seven exciting rounds under the watchful eye of the experienced FIDE arbiter John lee and this time, the Queen’s College boys emerged top of the table with Omesh Dyal from the ancient county of Berbice copping the title with a perfect record.
Kishan Puran finished in second place and his only loss was to Mahalia Rajkumar who finished third for the second successive week. In addition, Rajkumar was the best female player, again.
Omar Sharrif, who won the opening round, was fourth overall but the 10-year-old finished as the best under-12 male player. In fifth place was Arysh Raghunauth, while Italy Ton-Chung was sixth, Kyle Couchman seventh and Nandram Lall closed out the top eight.
The tournament is part of the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) ongoing training and development strategy using online platforms with 100 children to be awarded gold membership on chesskid.com at a cost of US$1500 to the GCF.
