Dear Editor,
The statement by opposition Member of Parliament Catherine Hughes in relation to an Indigenous Member of the National Assembly exposes the crassness and lies told by the opposition over the last month.
Hughes described Lennox Shuman’s election to the post of Deputy Speaker as an “abomination” before explaining that the post should have gone to the opposition party with the most seats, which is the A Partnership For National Unity and the Alliance For Change. According to her, the coalition has gotten 217, 000 votes at the last election.
The fact that Hughes repeated this with confidence and as a result felt entitled to the post of Deputy Speaker unravels the schemes being employed by the APNU+AFC. Sure, she did not mean for it to come out but it did! Now, the future looks grim for the APNU+AFC election petition because Hughes spoke the truth. This also means that the APNU+AFC lied to this nation on March 5, 2020 when they were about to declare the results in its favour.
They always knew that they did not win the election, which is the reason the APNU+AFC would not want to let the cat out of the bag in terms of the release of their Statements of Poll. They wanted to pull off an “abominable act” and deceive the nation.
Yours Sincerely,
Attiya Baksh
