A man, on Wednesday last, threw his shopping bag with suspected cannabis over a fence and ran away after he noticed a policeman following him.
Police said that the man had stepped out of a motorcar which was traced by the rank from the Patentia West Bank Demerara (WBD) Public Road to Vive La Force.
The policeman told his superiors that at around 12:30hrs, while travelling in his car, he observed some strange movements and decided to follow a white Toyota Premio motorcar.
The car stopped at Vive La Force, dropped off a man with a bulky shopping bag and then sped off again.
He decided to follow the man on foot through a track. The individual soon realized that he was being trailed by an officer and threw the shopping bag over a nearby fence before sprinting towards the sea dam area and escaping.
The policeman called for backup and scaled the fence to retrieve the shopping bag and discovered that it contained three neatly wrapped package of suspected marijuana.
Ranks from the Anti-Crime Patrol arrived shortly after but were unable to locate the suspect.
