One person was killed and three others were injured yesterday after a hire car crashed into a truck along the Linden/Soesdyke Highway.
Dead is Kevon John Newland of Wisroc, Linden, Region Ten.
Among the injured is Orin Rose, 30, the driver of the hire car; Shemron Niles and a female passenger.
According to police, the fatal crash took place at around 11:20hrs.
Kaieteur News learnt that the hire car, HC 6304, was heading in the direction of Linden when it collided with the trailer of a motor lorry.
Investigators detailed that the car was speeding along the highway in the vicinity of Kuru Kururu when it decided to overtake another car which slowed down to accommodate a motor lorry turning north onto the western side of the road.
However, the hire car crashed into the rear wheel of trailer before spinning and slamming into the side of the truck.
Public-spirited citizens who were passing by stopped and pulled out the semi-unconscious occupants of the car from the wreckage.
One of the injured passengers…the female, regained full consciousness and fled the scene while the others were placed in an ambulance and rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Center.
At the hospital, Newland was pronounced dead, while the driver, Rose, was referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) in a critical condition.
Niles was treated and sent away. Police were later able to track down the female passenger who fled and take her to the hospital where she received medical attention.
